A Way to Boost Morale...we all need it at some point !

I just finished a small but great book called "Fish" It's a book that deals with how to boost morale in a workplace that has none. It teaches the lessons it has using a fish market in Seattle called "Pike Place Fish Market" At this market they make work fun using 4 main points

1 Choose your attitude...positive or negative

2 Play...fun is energizing

3 Make Their Day...they include their customers and engage them to make a positive experience for them

4 Be Present....Being there for one another..

I think we all can use a boost in morale sometimes no matter what our job is. This gives us reminders of how to do that.

Here is a quote that I really liked on Meaning:

Meaning is not something you stumble across, like the answer to a riddle or the prize in a treasure hunt. Meaning is something you build into your life. You build it out of your own past, out of your affections and loyalties, out of the experience of humankind as it is passed on to you, out of your own talent and understanding, out of the things you believe in, out of the things and people you love, out of the values for which you are willing to sacrifice something. The ingredients are there. You are the only one who can put them together into that pattern that will be your life. Let it be a life that has dignity and meaning for you. If it does, then the particular balance of success or failure is of less account.

Interesting. I think that book makes a good point, and one I've been learning. That whatever character traits we want expressed in our life, it takes a daily commitment and decision to grow in that character trait. We sometimes think that all we need to do is decide to grow in an area, and that God will automatically just give it to us as a gift (just pull the lever on the slot-machine God). As Evan Almighty put it, if you're praying for self-control, God isn't going to just drop self-control into your lap, he's going to give you opportunities to grow in that area.
