God wakes us up

"But pain insists upon being attended to. God whispers to us in our pleasures, speaks in our conscience, but shouts in our pains: it is His megaphone to rouse a deaf world." —C.S. Lewis

    Great quote.

Philip Yancey has some great books on pain and how pain is a good thing for us physically, because it tells us that something is wrong. He talks extensively in a couple of books about Dr. Paul Brand, who worked with leprosy patients in India(?), and how leprosy affects your body in such a way that you no longer feel pain. Therefore, when you stub your toe, you don't feel it, and you don't feel how hard you hit it, so when it gets infected, you don't know you have a problem.

Anyway, I think a lot about pain, so I appreciate the C.S. Lewis quote.
