The Cross

This quote was in my study on Isaiah I haven't heard this before Tyler..this one is for you :)

"Why is the cross the symbol of our faith? To find the answer look no farther than the cross itself It's design couldn't be simpler. One beam horizontal- the other vertical. One reaches out-like God's love. The other reaches up-as does God's holiness. One represents the width of his love; the other reflects the height of his holiness. The cross is the intersection. The cross is where God forgave his children without lowering his standards." Max Lucado

It is interesting to note that the symbol of the cross wasn't used by Christians until over a hundred years after Jesus. They didn't go around with cross keychains or necklaces, and didn't sport any cross jewelry. Their focus wasn't so much on the cross, but the resurrection.

    Rochelle / Anth,

I have mixed feelings about cross jewelry, specifically how it is usually made to be pretty or beautiful.

The use of the cross was so ugly - it represents the worst kind of death. Hammering of nails through flesh and muscle. The tearing of the muscle as the person on the cross lifts himself to gasp for air. The length of time suffering on the cross waiting to die.

However, the beauty, as Ty mentions is that it represents Christ's death for my sins and His victory over death as He joins God in heaven for eternity.

By the way, I got a ring with a cross on it for Christmas - hhmmmm.
