Reuniting the"Breakfast Club"

Dear Mr. Vernon..We accept
the fact that we had to sacrifice a
whole Saturday in detention for
whatever it was that we did wrong.
What we did WAS wrong. But we think
you're crazy to make us write this
essay telling you who we think we
are, what do you care? You see us
as your want to see us...in the
simplest terms and the most
convenient definitions. You see us
as a brain, an athlete, a basket
case, a princess and a criminal.
Correct? That's the way we saw each
other at seven o"clock this morning.

We were brainwashed.

I love this movie It applies to every high school then and now Just different names

The next step

Graduation and the graduation party are over Even the cleanup wasn't too bad
It was a busy weekend and I'm still in a fog We went to two graduation parties on Sat Tyler and Anthony.. had ours on Sun.. and one to go to today.. Pat Hagues
They were fun but it's also a relief to have it over It was hard to keep track of who was at our house but we estimated about 120 people were there in the 4 hrs We were blessed with beautiful weather although alot of people were indoors because of the food and the Indianapolis 500 and then later moved out to the garage area and Corn hole and basketball
So now we have the summer to prepare for the next step.. the trip to Lee in August
I have a little preview of that in 2 weeks Kristen is going to music camp June 12-June 18 at Lee University while Darrell,Zach and I go to Hilton Head ,SC
Right now I'm just taking it one day at a time and enjoying the moments and memories as they come :) and doing my best to trust God in his plans for all of us

Graduation Day

Today is the day that I thought would always be so distant in the future I remember when I had Kristen thinking that 2005 seemed like such a lifetime away and here it is Part of me is happy and excited Part of me wishes it was 1986 again
Kristen brought home a booklet of quotes that her senior class gave as their favorite
Here are some that I liked

"Character is who you are when only God is watching."

"To laugh often and much to win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children..to leave the world a better place..to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived This is to have succeeded " Ralph Waldo Emerson

"Stand up for what you believe in, even if it means standing alone"

"There's nothing like the deep breaths after laughing that hard Nothing in the world like a sore stomach for the right reasons It was that great " Perks of Being a Wallflower

"Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breaths away "

"We did not change as we grew older, we just became more clearly ourselves" Hall

and Kristen's..
"Do not let anyone treat you as if you are unimportant because you are young, Instead, be an example to the believers with your words, your actions, your love, your faith, and your pure life" 1 Timothy 4:12

That's what God does !

I've never heard this song and don't know this group but I loved these lyrics

Jump in the mess of human lives undressed
And sin unconfessed . . . and see beauty.
Look at the sea of misfits and misery
And cry ‘til you bleed . . . and see beauty.
That's what God does!
That's what God does!
That's what God does, why can't we?

Seasons of life

As we go through certain events in our life they are like markers that create our memories That's what this week is for me
My first child is graduating on Sat and there are alot of "lasts.......last choir concert, last K2,last day of school, last lunch to pack, etc
All of that is leading up to "firsts" first day of college, first job, first car(that she buys!),first house, etc
This hasn't been an easy week Alot of emotion some happy ..Kristen singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow gave me goosebumps some sad ..The Irish Blessing always makes me cry
As I go through the rest of this week I'm relying on God for all my strength and joy
Like the picture "Footprints in the Sand " sometimes you need to let God carry you

Tom Cruise : Stick with topics you know about !

Since when did Tom Cruise become a medical expert? I just read a quote he made in reference to Brooke Shield's book "Down Came the Rain" in which she talks about her postpartum depression He feels she shouldn't have used the antidepressant Paxil

"When you talk about postpartum, you can take people today, women, and what you do is you use vitamins."

According to Dr. Tom, "There is a hormonal thing that is going on, scientifically, you can prove that. But when you talk about emotional, chemical imbalances in people, there is no science behind that. You can use vitamins to help a woman through those things."

As a registered nurse and a woman who has had 2 children I feel comfortable in saying that he doesn't have a clue and needs to stick to topics he knows about

Mixed-Up Emotions

My daughter's graduation is this Saturday It's funny how something can make you feel happy and sad at the same time within minutes even.
"Even in laughter the heart may sorrow, and the end of mirth may be grief" Proverbs 14:13
This is a tough week We had graduation Sunday and graduation party with K2
I actually held up pretty well very little tears but the toughie is tonight
Kristen has her last choir concert
They always highlight the seniors and it is emotional even when you don't have a senior
The seniors can sing a solo and they can choose the song
Kristen has chosen "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" a cappella
I don't think I'm going to get through this one with no tears :)

Star Wars " the last episode"

I saw the first Star Wars in May 1977 I remember going because it was my "last date" with my 1st boyfriend Joe Fiala who was getting ready to move to Bristol,Virginia
I was 17 yrs old
Yesterday I went to see the "Espisode III Revenge of the Sith" with our senior/junior high youth group and my husband (Darrell, not Joe :)
I am 44 now
It's unbelievable to me that it's been that long because it seems like yesterday that I saw the first one (Maybe because they show it on Fox on Sunday afternoons :)
I'm still partial to the first episodes especially "The Empire Strikes Back" but this one was definitely the better of the newer episodes The visual effects were unbelievable Everyone keeps talking about how "dark" this one is because of Anakin's change to Darth Vader..look beneath that evil and you will see the light...his ultimate sacrifice for his love
I loved the characters in this one and the undertones
I would definitely see it again

Praise

I love to sing praise and worship songs I don't have a wonderful voice like my daughter but I sing with all my heart and that's all that really matters isn't it?
There is one praise song that I can't sing without getting a little lump in my throat no matter how times I hear it I have it on my iTunes and play it everyday and it always has the same effect on me

Wonderful Maker
Matt Redman & Chris Tomlin

You spread out the skies over empty space
Said, Let there be light

To a dark and formless world Your light was born

You spread out Your arms over empty hearts
Said, Let there be light

To a dark and hopeless world Your Son was born

You made the world and saw that it was good
You sent Your only Son, for You are good

What a wonderful Maker
What a wonderful Savior
How majestic Your whispers
And how humble Your love
With a strength like no other
And the heart of a Father
How majestic Your whispers
What a wonderful God

No eye has fully seen how beautiful the cross
And we have only heard the faintest whispers of how great You are

"Free Song- Free Day"

I got an unexpected freebie day off work today My partner Cindy is working and we don't have alot of patients to see which is really unusual on a Monday so I got to come home I love unexpected things like that It's like getting an unexpected present or finding the "free song" for i Tunes under the pepsi cap (Zach and I fight over those)
So what am I doing with my day ? Besides playing on the computer :)
I have a bin of pictures that I have put off going through for Kristen's graduation table I'm not a scrapbooker and when we get our pictures developed(we probably have 20 disposable cameras in a drawer that aren't developed) we just tend to throw them altogether
So todays the day I bite the bullet With my iTunes on and my box of kleenex it's time to journey back in time before she sets off on her journey to her future

God even talks through emails

God talks to me in alot of different ways Even email This was my morning devotion
I only see a small picture of my life God knows all of it and this was just a reminder of that

And I’ll just keep on praying Lord
And just keep on living

Where do you want to be a year from now? Five years? For that matter, what have you planned for tonight? Anyone who’s made plans for anything knows what it’s like to have to change those plans. Some people take it better than others, but still, it can be tough.

So what do we do? Here’s what the Bible advises: "Always be joyful. Keep on praying. No matter what happens, always be thankful, for this is God's will for you who belong to Christ Jesus" (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NLT). All we have to do is keep seeking God and living our lives, one day at a time.

As believers, we have the unimaginable comfort of knowing that our Father in Heaven sees all that is coming at us. Not only that, He has promised to lead us through all things. Trust Him!

Freefalling

Free-falling ..reminds me of a Tom Petty song:)but it describes how I feel right now
I'm not much of a risk taker so for me to feel like this is stressful
I don't know where or how hard I'm going to land
Too many things that are out of my control right now and too little sleep
I just have to trust in what God says "The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasing arms.."
I have to trust that he'll catch me

Happiness at any cost

Happiness at any cost...this was the title of our small group study last night
"The human heart is selfish, prefers its own way, fights being molded by God...We're stubborn, prideful, and strong-willed, and these unbecoming characteristics are most starkly revealed in our relationships" We set up emotional comfort zones and allow our emotions to rule our heart and we avoid situations that might "compromise" our happiness
Avoiding situations..avoiding conversations that need to happen, not rocking the boat, wanting everything to run smoothly What I end up doing is trying to fit God and scripture into my comfort zone and ultimately end up unhappy because I'm in a place God doesn't want me to be He never promised me "happily ever after" on earth but he did promise to stay with me through all the bumps and forks in the road
Allison gave each of us a bar of soap to remind us "No matter how much we want for God to make us clean, our heart is as slippery as soap. If we keep this in mind, we can be on gurad against the whims of emotion. When we are wise, we can't be led astray by the wiles of the heart"

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding" Proverbs 3:5

Mother's Day

Kristen and Zach  Posted by Hello

I am blessed to be the mother of Kristen and Zach

I remember when I was pregnant with Kristen I worried that I wouldn't know what to do ..but God gives you that natural instinct or "mother radar" as Roger called it You just need to love them and God takes care of the rest

When I was pregnant with Zach I worried that I wouldn't be able to love him as much as I did Kristen or that Kristen would feel that I didn't love her as much as Zach but God gives you that ability to love them equally he just fills your heart up

And sometimes He puts special people in your life who need "a mother's love" and he gives you that extra special love to give

I feel blessed that I am able to celebrate my mother's day with those i love :)

Loggins and Messina and Chris Tomlin concerts

I'm sure I will be showing my age on this but I love Loggins and Messina They were popular in the 70's and then broke up in 1976 and Kenny Loggins went on his own
I've seen Kenny Loggins 2 times but I've never seen them together and they are back together and touring this summer
Darrell bought tickets this morning so I have something to look forward to :)
Some of their popular songs were "House at Pooh Corner", "Angry Eyes","Danny's Song", and "Your Momma Don't Dance"

The other concert we plan to go to is Chris Tomlin He's performing free at Island Metro Park in downtown Dayton (near Riverscape) on June 24 Fri night (my birthday :))
He sings "Forever","Holy is the Lord","We Fall Down","Indescribable","The Noise We Make","Famous One" If you plan on going to this I would definitely get there early There will be thousands of people !

Day of Prayer...Cinquo de Mayo

I love Mexican food The chips they bring you in a basket are my favorite(except at Chipolte..theirs are nasty) so I had to celebrate today with Cinnamon chips and coke imported from Mexico Honestly it tasted the same as our coke but the bottle was in spanish and it was in a glass bottle I love coke in the small glass bottles It just tastes better

Today was also National Day of Prayer ....a celebration of intimate conversation with God I always find for me that the best time for prayer is early in the morning or very late at night when it's very quiet and very dark at my house
Jesus must have felt the same way

"Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed " Mark 1:35

It also gives me time to reflect on things in the past and things to come I've been very sentimental this week
I've found myself thinking alot about when my children were young
I think it's a combination of planning for Kristen's graduation,Mindy's baby shower, and I have another friend who I found out last week is in the early stages of her first pregnancy
I saw a young mother this week with a little girl who was about 3 and holding a little boy about 1 who looked identical to what Kristen and Zach looked like at that age and those memories came flooding back to me
Also, Zach found a Nickolodean website where I can listen to the theme from "David the Gnome" which is the cartoon that was always playing when he would get home from kindergarten He knows how much I loved that song :)
I miss the days when my children were young but I also look forward to what my future will bring.....

What is love?

I got an email with answers to "What is love?" from a child's point of view
These were my favorite answers

"When someone loves you, the way they say your name is different You just know your name is safe in their mouth"

"Love is what makes you smile when you're tired"

"Love is what's in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen"

"You really shouldn't say I love you unless you mean it but if you mean it you should say it alot...... People forget"

Senior Prom

Kristen and Tyler Posted by Hello

Senior Prom

Kristen and Tyler on prom night Posted by Hello

Tyler and Kristen went to their senior prom last night at Springboro It was a cold day but that didn't seem to matter to any of the girls in their dresses The whole day was spent at hair salon, makeup counter, etc but in the end you can see it was worth it Kristen looked absolutely beautiful They went to eat at a newer italian restaurant in the Kenwood mall called Magiones (sp?) with Don and Angie The food was really good and Tyler managed not to get anything on his white tux:)

I worked at prom and afterprom so I got to see the formal and the casual look The dresses were beautiful I didn't see any that looked alike The after prom was a Vegas casino theme They had real blackjack and roulette tables Lots of games and prizes including a 27" flat screen tv

I didn't get to bed until 3 so it was pretty tough getting up for church but definitely worth it We're doing a series based on "Blue Like Jazz" and I loved the message They also announced the new worship arts minister I'm really excited for him to start and be a part of Southwest

Now it's time to crash Kristen is lying in my bed with all of her makeup still on and hair still up sound asleep I should get a picture of that for "after prom" but she would kill me :)
